7 Supportive Supplements in Corona Prevention and Care

prevention and care 2

Here are some ideas of excellent supplements that could be helpful and protective, both as part of an infection-prevention-strategy and complimentary support if you do have a Corona-virus or any other respiratory virus infection

The doses and supplements mentioned are for adults.  Many of them can also be used for children, but not all and not in the same strengths.  Consult your health practitioner for specifics for children.  There are always potential interactions with medication. Do not use supplements with medication without supervision from your doctor.

If you don’t feel like reading the whole thing, skip down to GLUTATHIONE and SERRAPEPTASE.  Those are my favourites!

  1. Vitamin C

Vitamin C not only stimulates the immune system, it also has many significant benefits for the circulation and plays a part in inflammatory management via our natural cortisone / cortisol in our bodies.

The best vitamin C to take is either a top quality liposomal vitamin C or an ester C.  As prevention, take 1000-2000mg per day, spread out through the day depending on whether it is a powder, capsule or tablet.  If you feel you are getting sick, you can increase to taking this dose every two to three hours daily.

  1. Zinc

Zinc is involved in over 300 enzyme-processes in the body.  It helps to keep the mucous membranes strong and stable and activates immune system competence against potentially harmful viral infections.

Prevention:  Take 15-25mg Zinc picolinate / glycinate / gluconate daily, preferably after dinner.  If you feel you are getting sick, you can take up to 100mg a day in divided doses for 2-3 days and then go back down to 50mg daily. Don’t take 50mg daily for longer than 2 weeks.

Do not take zinc long term (over many months or years) unless you know you need it. You might lower your copper levels as a result.

  1. Selenium

Selenium is often forgotten when it comes to fighting infections.  Selenium is highly involved in activating the immune system AND keeping the immune system in balance. It has great protective and detoxifying effects too.

You can easily increase your selenium intake by having 2-3 brazil nuts on average daily. Otherwise supplement 100-200mcg of selenium in the form of Selenomethionine or  Sodium-selenite / “Natriumselenit”.  In the case of sodium-selenite / Natriumselenit take it 4 hours or more away from vitamin C. If you are taking selenomethionine, this  does not apply.

Don’t increase your dose above 200mcg daily.

  1. Vitamin D

Vitamin D status very strongly correlates with the risk of getting sick from a corona-virus and other respiratory viruses.  Vitamin D is involved in immunomodulation.  It is involved in differentiation of certain white blood cells and stimulates white blood cells. At the same time it helps to reduce specific inflammatory messengers that helps to keep you safe when the immune system is firing.

I have seen protocols where very high dose vitamin D is simply recommended without testing.  However, Vitamin D, if you overdose, is quite toxic.  Therefore, in the first place, get healthy sun exposure if you can while eating good vitamin D sources, such as healthy egg yolks.

Check your vitamin D status and keep your vitamin D levels in a good place.  Do not just take massive doses of vitamin D unchecked.

Many good vitamin D supplements are available, such as sublingual sprays, drops, capsules in combination with vitamin K and more. Check with your nutrition-orientated-health-practitioner what vitamin D is best and check your status if you use a high dose.

  1. Glutathione / N-Acetyl-Cystein

Glutathione is involved in immune system competence in many ways.  It activates the powerful anti-viral Natural Killer cells (type of white blood cells), while helping to keep the balance in the immune system.

Glutathione is cell-protective and helps to balance the inflammatory messengers in the body. This is super-important when you want protection in a corona-virus-infection or other respiratory infections.

Specifically, glutathione increases the “thiols” in the body. Thiols can hamper the penetration of SARS-Cov2 / COVID-19 into the cells of the lungs, thereby assisting in prevention of actual infection and protection against severe infection.

Due to these many protective and regulating effects of glutathione, it has long been shown as a great part of prevention and treatment of cold- and influenza-like diseases.

Your body naturally makes glutathione from other essential nutrients you should be getting from your diet, which is one of the many reasons to have a fabulous, colourful and natural diet.  You can read more about increasing your natural glutahione levels here.

You lose glutathione if you constantly tax yourself with toxins, junk food, sleep deprivation and many other stress-factors.

Taking extra Glutathione / NAC in a time of need can make a big difference.

You can either take N-Acetyl-Cysteine (NAC) or liposomal Glutathione.  Take 600mg NAC twice daily or 400-600mg Liposomal Glutathione once daily for extra-strong prevention.  Liposomal Glutathione can be taken up to 4 times daily if you feel you are getting sick.

NAC increases glutathione in the functional tissue of the lungs and helps to thin mucous.

Liposomal Glutathione is absorbed very fast and has a very high potency.

  1. Serrapeptase / Nattokinase

Serrapeptase / Nattokinase are a proteolytic-enzymes with many specific protective actions when it comes to the potentially harmful effects of a SARS/MERS/COVID-Corona-infection.

Serrapeptase helps to boost the immune system, while keeping inflammation under control in an effective and clever way.

On top of that, Serrapeptase and Nattokinase help to dissolve/remove blood clots and thereby regulate the circulation.

Serrapeptase / Nattokinase are mostly a practitioner only supplements, which means you need to ask your health practitioner for it and they will guide you on how to use it. There are “over the counter” versions and some are really good. However, please ask about Serrapeptase / Nattokinase for your specific needs.  You are unique and so are your needs.

  1. Omega 3

Omega 3 can help to keep your circulation healthy, your blood thin and inflammation under control.  All of these processes are directly involved in your protection against potential harm from corona or other respiratory viral infections.

Take a top quality fish oil or krill oil product regularly.  Have fatty fish if you live near the ocean. Focus on the fast growing smaller fish, such as sardines and mackerel to minimise your intake of toxins and environmental impact at the same time.
